Once again, even though we had a rainy Wed. morning and afternoon, it cleared up for our Wed. night race. I think everyone was quite happy with the 8-10 knots of breezy wind and according to some 40 degree shifts (what else do expect from an easterly). RC used F as the windward mark and it must have been a great show for all the people who sit on the point and watch the sunset. A big thanks to RC of Steve Sudderth, Matt Dollacker, Daniel Postell, Savannah White, Doug Ireland, Tony and Jordan Milligan, Sidney Brown, and Rachael Green for the fantastic job this night.
In the Low Cruiser fleet, Greg Cash has successfully held off his competitors, but they are getting closer. Jim Chambers in the High Cruiser fleet has won 2 races while David Wright who won Race 2, is pushing him hard. Michael Linkeit and company are reigning top dogs in the Melges 24 fleet, while Davis Macleod and Tony Cellamare are waiting for them to make a mistake. Everybody in the Large Sportboat fleet has won a race, so this is going to be the fleet to watch in the upcoming weeks. The J-80 and the J-88 are duking it out in the Low PHRF fleet, while in the Mid PHRF fleet the big boys of Bailey White and Tommy Sawchuck are trying to keep the little guy, Parker Thran off their tails. The J-24 fleet has a rivalry going between the top 3 boats. They each have won one race. Kyle Meyhoefer continues to dominate the High PHRF fleet, but Tedd Meinersmann and Jim Rapp are giving him some stiff opposition. Thank you everyone for signing up for race committee for Series 1, we still need people to sign up for Series 2. On the food front, we are talking about having a cook out in the gravel parking lot by D dock. Will is waiting for fair weather to satisfy our hunger, we will keep you up to date about our plans. I am sure Mr. Brown will be happy to accept volunteers to help with the cooking when we plan to do this. Speaking of plans, the Dogwood / Ga Tech Open Regatta is being revamped post-storm style and we are planning a cook out (most likely at the beach) on our new date of May 20 after the races with trophies on Sun May 21. More details to come next week after we have our meeting. Scores will also be posted on our facebook page each week. Thank you Will Shirley for this great Wednesday night picture. See you on the race course, Dana ______________________________________________________________ Anyone else have a little deja-vu? This week played out quite similarly to last week with the exception of a bit more powerboats and some lighter air. Nonetheless, the left side seemed to pay yet again. Thanks to Revecca Barkley, Jeremy Tutor, Scott Mathis, Darryl Lanier, and Will Lee for a bang up RC job.! They even had to call a few boats over early this week! Congrats to our race winners:
Low Cruiser: Greg Cash, Impetuous High Cruiser: Jim Chambers, Wind Spinner Melges 24: Davis MacLeod, Premature Acceleration Large Sportboat: Jeff Freeman, Renegade Low PHRF: Patrick Vrana, J-88 Mid PHRF: Bailey White, Griffin J-24: Brad Bowers, Althea High PHRF: Kyle Meyhoefer, Highlander I've also created a google drive folder that should allow y'all to access all the scoring from this series without needing to search for the right email. Feel free to bookmark or save to your drive for ease of access! https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1P_25RE1tEwZW1BNUZnOeBiCZEA5c8xgG?usp=share_link As always let me know if there are any corrections needed and congrats to everyone for making it out to another wonderful Wednesday night! Thank you, Kyle Meyhoefer Highlander, USA-533 ________________________________________________________ Let me start with the most important information: YOU HAVE UNTIL MONDAY TO SIGN UP FOR RACE COMMITTEE. After that, Jonathan will assign primary and secondary race committee teams for the first series.
It has been an unusually stormy spring causing a lot of damage to the clubhouse. Because of this we will be unable to have Wed night dinners for the next couple of weeks, but there will be 10 Wed night dinners (as we had last year), but they will be delayed. We will announce when we commence Wed dinners again and the dates of these dinners will be announced ahead of time. A big thank you to our race committee members of Jonathan Stewart, Spencer Gay, Kyle Stadele, Mike Powell, Will Brown, Ryan Jones, Norm Barns and Missy Jaeger. Don’t forget to sign up for RC, now a word from our Scorer: Hello Everyone! My name is Kyle Meyhoefer and I've volunteered to help out with scoring this year. Dana will be helping as I transition in, but if you have concerns or correction requests feel free to reach out to me as well! This week we kicked off what has already proven to be an eventful Wednesday night series. We had to wait a week due to the storm damage that affected us, and wait again for the wind to fill in this week. However, a patient and prepared race committee led by Jonathan Stewart and Spencer Gay knew it would fill in and sent us on our way as soon as it did. The delayed start to the series had everyone itching to race and that was evident by the spirited starts in many of the fleets. Congratulations to the winners in each group this week: Low Cruiser: Greg Cash, Impetuous High Cruiser: Jim Chambers, Wind Spinner Melges 24: Michael Lenkeit, Rapscallion Large Sportboat: Matt Dollacker, Maverick Low PHRF: Sean O'Connor, Meraki Mid PHRF: Bailey White, Griffin J-24: Dana Stewart, She-Devil High PHRF: Kyle Meyhoefer, Highlander Something I like doing each Wednesday night is calculating the corrected time per nautical mile for each boat to see where I rank against boats in other fleets. Yes, conditions change between each start and generally the faster boats are still on top, but I think it is fun to look at, so I thought I'd share. This week, the light air and persistent left shift favored the asymmetrical sport boats but we'll see if that changes as the conditions change. This week, the fastest corrected boats on the water were: 1. Michael Lenkeit, Rapscallion - 16 min, 21 sec per Nm 2. Matt Dollacker, Maverick - 17:01 per Nm 3. Jeff Freeman, Renegade - 17:12 per Nm Congrats to everyone on a gorgeous first race of the year! Looking forward to seeing y'all next week!
